Cut Cravings and Be Super Healthy with This Super Green Smoothie

Do your cravings get the best of you?  Do they ever make you detour from your diets and healthy lifestyle?  Even as a health coach, I still get crazy cravings and I’m always researching and experimenting – with myself – most times giving into the cravings and assessing how I feel, and then trying other ways to satisfy that craving.

Indulging in a craving such as carrot cake or a fancy drink from Starbucks, allows me to be bad – and initially I feel great – but then a couple of minutes later I’m asking myself WHY oh WHY did I derail and eat this?!   Does this ever happen to you?

Cravings are mysterious signals from our bodies – showing us that we are lacking or missing something in our life – it can be as simple as not eating enough protein, carbs or fats – or it can be an emotional or psychological desire.

Your cravings for sweet, sugary things, may simply be cravings for energy because of little or no sleep, or it could be a craving for grounding root vegetables which nourish and satisfy you from within.  It could even be the need for a hug after a long, stressful day.

Next time you’re cravings are out of control – check in with yourself and consider trying this amazing Green Smoothie:

Ingredients:

  • Romaine Lettuce, small handful
  • Spinach, Small handful
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 Celery Stalk
  • ½ apple, cored and coarsely chopped
  • ½ pear, cored and coarsely chopped
  • ½ banana
  • 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Fresh parsley, 4-5 stems minced

I found this wonderful smoothie online – via Nutritionist Kimberly Snyder – thinking it was going to help me enhance my glow and boost my beauty from the inside out…but I was amazed at just how much nutrition is packed into this smoothie and how energizing and filling it is…and most importantly – how it helped me kill my hysterical cravings.

 

When making this smoothie, it’s important to do it in 3 steps – so it doesn’t come out chunky.  Here are the directions for a smooth blend:

  1. Combine the spinach, romaine and water in a blender and begin processing on low. Gradually move to higher speeds and blend until smooth.

 

  1. Next, add the celery, apple, pear and parsley.

 

  1. Lastly, add the banana, lemon juice and ice (if using), and blend until smooth.

 

  1. Serve at once or refrigerate, covered, for up to 2½- 3 days.
